The Revamped Support Gem System
The support gem system has always been a key component of Path of Exile’s skill customization, allowing players to Path of Exile 2 Currency augment their active skills with additional effects like increased damage, elemental bonuses, and defensive layers. In POE 2, the Support Gem System is being revamped to offer even more creative ways to modify skills.
A major change is the introduction of Support Modifiers that can change not only the scaling of damage but also the behavior of the skill itself. For instance, a traditional support gem like Added Fire Damage might be enhanced to also apply a Burning Debuff to enemies, or a Support Gem that modifies projectiles might give them a Piercing Effect or allow them to Bounce off walls.
Additionally, the new Support Skill Gems will allow players to attach secondary abilities to their primary skills. These could be special buffs or debuffs that trigger when a skill is cast, adding even more layers of complexity and strategy to the game. For example, a support gem could provide a temporary shield after casting a fireball or create a secondary explosion that deals more damage or applies a debuff to enemies nearby.

5. Skill Gem Rebalance and New Gem Types
POE 2 also brings a much-needed rebalancing of old skill gems from Path of Exile, giving them new effects and altering the way they interact with other gems. These changes are aimed at making older skill gems more relevant, while also offering new, more powerful alternatives for players to experiment with.
Some of the old classic gems like Fireball, Lightning Strike, and Summon Zombies are getting new tweaks, and many of the gems will have new interactions with the new systems and hybrid mechanics introduced in POE 2. Additionally, there are entirely new gem types being introduced, such as Elemental Conversion Gems, which allow players to convert elemental damage into different types (e.g., converting fire damage into cold damage).
This rebalancing also applies to the gem socket system, allowing players to have more flexibility in how they allocate their gems and POE 2 Chaos Orbs skills.
