Simulacrums usually punish hesitation: enemies arrive from every angle, the arena fills with effects, and a build that looks comfortable in maps can collapse under sustained pressure. Bitter Dead Eternal March Gemling approaches the encounter differently. Instead of standing still to place every spell, it creates a moving stream of bitter cores and lets them travel toward targets while the character keeps repositioning. That makes it a compelling choice for players who enjoy high-investment setups and have enough Path of Exile 2 Currency to complete the required mana, ward, spirit, and quality thresholds.
Why the build feels stronger in a crowded arena
Bitter Dead converts corpses into cores that chase enemies before detonating. In a normal map, this already gives the Gemling excellent mobility, but Simulacrums provide the ideal environment for the skill. Enemy density keeps the corpse supply moving, while fresh targets appear before the previous wave has fully disappeared. A cast can continue dealing damage after the player has crossed to another side of the arena, which reduces the need for precise targeting during hectic waves.
The catch is that Bitter Dead depends on corpses, and not every encounter provides them at a comfortable rate. Skeletal Clerics solve that problem when combined with Sacrifice. The clerics become a reserve of usable corpses, allowing the build to function during isolated phases, boss encounters, or moments when enemies are temporarily difficult to reach. Their value is not traditional minion damage. They are ammunition, infrastructure, and a timing tool for the entire rotation.
Preservation is the real damage breakpoint
New players often focus on spell level or raw critical stats first, but corpse preservation has a larger effect on how the build actually plays. A single Bitter Dead cast can create a substantial group of cores, and preserving the corpses means the same cleric reserve can support several casts instead of being consumed immediately. Once preservation reaches a comfortable threshold, the setup changes from a resource-hungry spell build into a self-sustaining cycle: cores clear enemies, enemies create corpses, and preserved corpses support the next wave.
This is also why unfinished versions can feel strangely weak. If the preservation chance is low, the clerics vanish too quickly and the skill loses its rhythm whenever density drops. Gemling quality investment helps push the setup toward consistency, but chasing the last few percentage points can cost more than it returns. I would prioritize a stable corpse cycle before adding luxury damage pieces.
Eternal March, mana, and the practical play loop
Eternal March gives the build its reset mechanism. When the cleric reserve is depleted, sufficient ward and the right resources allow the minions to return, restoring the supply for another sequence of Bitter Dead casts. Ward therefore serves both defense and offense. Mana has a similar dual role through Archmage scaling, while Grim Feast can recover life and mana from remnants created during dense clearing. The result is a character that often feels better as the arena becomes busier.
The routine is simple once the thresholds are met: cast Bitter Dead, keep moving, watch the cleric reserve, and trigger Eternal March before the engine stalls. Frost Wall adds a more deliberate option for bosses and rare enemies with large health pools. Breaking its crystals can create a valuable burst window, so the build has a relaxed clearing mode and a more focused single-target mode. Dominion may help a specialized variant with uptime concerns, but it should not replace the mana, ward, spirit, and preservation stats that make this version function.
Who should invest in this Gemling?
This is an excellent endgame project for players who value movement, layered sustain, and a build that feels engineered rather than improvised. It is less suitable for anyone seeking a cheap league starter or immediate boss damage, because the important breakpoints depend on expensive gear and careful passive planning. Targeting can also become awkward around certain enemies, and a large number of active cores may affect visual clarity or frame rate. Once assembled, though, Bitter Dead Eternal March Gemling turns Simulacrums into a controlled resource loop instead of a frantic spell-casting test. For players comparing upgrade paths, POE 2 Chaos Orbs remain useful for tuning the final pieces and improving the build's consistency.
